A washed, single-origin specialty coffee grown at 1,610 m in Embu, near the Kirinyaga border on the slopes of Mount Kenya. The region’s classic SL28, SL34 and Batian varieties bring notes of rosehip, redcurrant and quince to the cup. Founded in 1964 and affiliated with the Kibugu Farmers Cooperative Society, Kathakwa Washing Station receives coffee from 1,100–1,200 smallholder producers, most of whom farm plots smaller than one hectare. AB grade, 87 points and from the 2024/25 harvest. Ideal for V60 and other filter methods. Available in 250 g and 1 kg bags of freshly roasted whole beans.

Kathakwa is a vibrant and complex Kenyan coffee led by distinct notes of rosehip and redcurrant. The first sip reveals bright acidity reminiscent of red berries. The balanced sweetness and subtle tartness of quince complement this lively acidity, leading to a clean and lingering finish.

This coffee comes from Kathakwa Washing Station on the slopes of Mount Kenya. It is grown by smallholder farmers in a region known for its fertile volcanic soils and specialty coffee production. Composed of SL28, SL34 and Batian varieties, the coffee offers a vibrant, refined and complex cup shaped by its high-elevation terroir.
